I have tried to create a rule to stop the constant
outgoing messages from Windows Media Player.
direction "out", action "deny"
SS then told me the rule was to simple.
I clicked on apply and ok anyway.
From first short test I am not being annoyed by the constant request from an outgoing message for Windows Media Player.
Is there somthing else I need to add to the rule and HOW do I do it.
Thanks

Nothing special . You just need to define the rule as Deny , Out , TCP&UDP and select the WMP's exe file in the Local tab

Thank you HiTeck_boy for responding.
I followed your instructions to the letter
and when I booted up the Puter, I got
4 of the requests for an outgoing message from
Windows Media Player.
I am at a loss except for deleting Windows Media Player.

If even after that there is still a pop-up (but the same) , perhaps there is something in ESS which makes it not save the rules. You should try to reinstall ESS if the rule creation fails again

Hello,

I found a message thread in another web forum here (http://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/index.php?&showtopic=18481) explaining how to enable Windows Media Player so it looks up information from the Internet.

Perhaps follow the steps in message #4, but deselecting (unchecking) the options will prevent your copy of Windows Media Player from connecting to the Internet?

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky

Thanks guys.
I think that following your suggestions I have
finally got the bloody think stopped.
