Benefits of Tiny Personal Firewall's prompts

Alright, I know me and many other users here appreciate the GUI of Tiny Personal Firewall's prompts over the prompts of most other security software.

Time after time I just do not feel that software vendors understand how much appreciated TPF's prompts are.

I am going to go install VMWare again and post some screen shots of TPF prompts and why I like them.

If some of you others could do the same, I think it would help vendors a lot.

Or you could install CA HIPS ( I think the beta is still available for free). Its basically Tiny in a new CA bottle.

In this screen shot I like:

This time only:

Options to run with either Default Security or No Security.

Track'n Reverse feature allows user to watch and remove traces of given software.

Option not to run the software is nice in case you opened on accident and do not want to create a policy for it.

Always:

Option to apply to current user only or all users is nice to have if you have multiple Windows accounts.

Option to trust given application is nice for local software such as Paint.NET

Option to inherit parent's security is nice and saves time.

Overall, I just like the GUI interface of TPF more than any other security software of it's kind. I think COMODO would do well if they had a more similar prompting GUI.

CA's HIPS 7.1 (currently in beta) or 7.0 is exactly the same as TPF .126.

That's why I've always liked TPF. Not only for it's ahead-of-it's-time HIPS and Firewall but the beautiful GUI.

Personally i always stuck with the relic Kerio 2.15, but over time i've read nothing but glowing satisfaction over Tiny and disappointment it didn't continue.

I do not know if it requires a key to make activate it. Otherwise, use CA's paid version as it is the same but with updated SNORT rules and other enhancements like email protection, web filtering and personal info safekeeping.

Not for Vista or W2k8 server.

Thanks, will give it a spin.

My specs are routine and soon to be relic no doubt now that Vista is filling up distribution of their latest, but i run XP Professional SP2 only.

You will not get the full IDS/IPS ruleset on install. I cannot locate the full IPS/IDS rules on dslreports forums. I will upload it when I have time to find it.

1) Go here. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,15158782

2) Download the cfgwi.zip file and follow the post to install the dll file.

3) Make a backup of Tiny rules.

4) Go to Program Files>Tiny>Policy Table>Backup>whatever you named the file>10>srv.

5) Replace the IDS file with the newer one.

6) Restore the whatever you named the backup.

Now you have the full IDS/IPS rules.
