Stinger is a stand-alone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system. Stinger utilizes next generation scan engine technology, including process scanning, digitally signed DAT files, and scan performance optimizations.

@HAN, malware changes rapidly, so having multiple utilities is always a good bet. Since malware was discovered, the "best" application overall to remove infections has changed numerous times. Stinger is still effective, just not as much on some of the brand new threats.

Always been a good aide in cleanup, Stinger now has an option to set a level of sensitivity for a heuristic network check.
