My son is now 8 and I want to start and restrict his Internet surfing, so can you tell me if there are any good filtering programmes out there that you can advise me on to use.

Hi ladore,
I did see this software and it does look promising, thanks for the help, I hope others can recommend some other programmes as well, just incase this one does not work out.

Helped my Daughter find some options to try to restrict our Grandsons` curiosity :o . Do not sure what she wound up using but which ever it was she was able to configure it herself and seems quit satisfied with it. Will probably be speaking with her in the next day or so. I will let you know then if you are still looking.

If you can have a static IP, you can create an account at opendns and can filter websites.

Thanks everyone for you support so far, I am going to try K9 software first to see how this works on my sons system, he has one of his own in his room which works of my wireless router and I will be restricting his surfing for sure and also with a very good password so he cant change the settings of k9 in the future.

you may love Privoxy, which I am using with Safari as a replacement of ad muncher.

Privoxy literal means "Private Enhancing Proxy". it is a web context filtering proxy. you can run it as a proxy server on your machine for other computers in LAN. In this way you can configure it locally, making sure it will not be altered by others. there are rules in it supporting parental control.

This is also possible with a dynamic IP.

I've been testing parental control software and the only one that had the features I wanted was Time Boss (http://www.nicekit.com/parental-control-software.htm). My concerns are that:

1) It seems almost completely unknown (no reviews).
2) It's been translated from Russian or something.
3) Developer response is slooooow. (3 e-mails and 2 weeks wait)
4) Might be very easy to bypass.

Has anyone here heard or had any experience with it??
