Guys, sorry for such a silly question, but I can't figure out how to upgrade TrueCrypt.

I have a 4.3a version and would like to upgrade to the newest one but I just don't know how to do it. TC GUI doesn't seem to have an upgrade feature.

Do I have to uninstall the previous version and install a new one from the scratch? In that case what will happen with my encrypted partition? Will I be able to mount it with the new version? I don't want to lose all my data in the encrypted partition.

Help, please.

I uninstall the present version, clean registry. Install the new version. I use a container, the new version will mount a old container so you can make a new container later.

You don't even really need to uninstall first, and actually is impossible if you use System Encryption (Introduced in v5).

Just install over and go. Recreate your containers if you want, if your upgrading to v6, you won't get most of the new "features" in containers without recreating them.

There is no way to upgrade a container.

Just to play it safe, I suggest backing up your headers before doing anything else.

Hello,

Simply run the installer. That's it.

Like most, if not all open-source cross-platform software, it installs neatly into its installation folder and no extra fuss. Since it can run from a USB, it tells you how friendly and simple it is.
