About RealPlayer

I got an issue with RealPlayer. I was not sure if I post this somewhere else but it seems to be better associate RP to trojans and backdoors. Ok here is what did I experience.

Everytime RP was launched, there was a background exe named tkbell launced and it disturbed netconnection so bad it caused disconnection. I tried to find this tkbell but I failed, so it was origin compressed inside RP. When I uninstalled RP I found out it had added it´s own bookmarks and some other features and registry keys, so I took time to clean whole registry by my own hands, after jv16 registry cleaner ofcourse.
RP is a serious privacy issue too. It collects all information in it´s own databases during the time it is running. No one knows where it sends all of it when you are connected to the net.( I figure out)
Now the evil is gone - forever and I got peace of mind.
People out there......Do NOT install RealPlayer if you like to keep out problems.

I wish this was considered in Javacool´s Spywareblaster in some update db.

Happy valentines day!

Yes Real Player does contain spyware but so does Windows Media Player. I used WMP but control it via my firewall to prevent it from sending information about my computer. However, here is an URL to one that is as good as WMP and is free of crapware .... read and judge for yourself.

I read about spyware: Real Player, but while taking online college course (Appreciation of music). I have to have it downloaded to be able to listen to the music.
Any alternative? Any suggestion?
I cannot afford expensive dowloads though.

Thaks.

Hello Jer ........ i really like this http://radio.netscape.com/radio/radiosell2.html

seems clean of spware if you use a properly configured firewall, read their privacy policy and use common sense. It passes muster for me with various anti-spyware programs. I think you will like it. Something for everyone. Very good music :D

There is a spywarefree RealPlayer version linked from the BBC website - due to a special deal between Real Networks and the BBC.

In addition, the new RealPlayer 10 should contain less adware, better file association- and Message Center control.

As a complete NOVICE I realised that RealPlayer was a bogus program that is sooooooooo........invasive as to alert even a Green person as I was to the effect. NEVER use this stupid program. That's the point....NEVER!

@ minacross

Right in the first post.

{QUOTE-> The BBC made a unique deal with Real Networks which disposes of their spyware tactics. Basically, if a user clicks on a link to download Real Player from a BBC website, the referrer script sends them to a page where they can download an expiry-free, spyware-free and nuisance-free version of the player. <-QUOTE}

Hey, what the $@&$* is happening here? >:(

I clicked on the "Real & Quicktime Alternative" link in this thread, and got some site that not only tried to put spyware on my machine, but it seemed to be almost entirely devoted to Russian Brides! :o

I don't think that's what I was looking for; I'm 65 and have been happily married for well over a quarter of a Century. Needless to say, I didn't do any business there.

Is there a less, well, provocative site for these programs? ???

I don't have any problems there. Just don't klick on the ads.
Here is another site

Real Alternative 1.21 (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail.php3?fid=1054136293)
