Hello,

I have a problem at Windows 2000 SP4 with NOD 3.0.669.0 and M$ 'User Profile Hive Cleanup':

If the service 'User Profile Hive Cleanup' is started (Start up: automatic) the computer hangs after log off at 'saving settings'.
After disabling the service everything wents fine.

Does anybody know anything about this?

ekrn.exe must be excluded from UPHC per the instructions in the readme file supplied with the UPHC installer.

Thanks for that I would never have known to add this Exclusion in UPHC.

UPHClean is part of the operating system in Windows Vista. How is a user installing NOD32 meant to know that they need to edit the registry to add this exclusion? Is it necessary in Vista, or does this exclusion only apply to pre-Vista?

Unless I missed something since when is UPHClean part of Vista?

"The functionality of UPHClean (v1.6) is included in the Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 User Profile Service. The User Profile Service performs all the necessary work to prevent user profile log off errors from occuring."

"UPHClean fails to install on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. This happens because the User Profile service included with those operating system includes the functionality of UPHClean v1.6 built in."

I don't have UPHC installed on my Vista.

Every Vista PC I've installed or serviced has it:
Service name: profsvc
Display name: User Profile Service

Below is the .reg file for automating this -- we distribute this through our active directory... Of course, this over writes any user exclusion you may have had -- we don't have any others.

REGEDIT4

// Registry file generated by the Application Launcher.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\UPHClean]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\UPHClean\Parameters]
"USER_EXCLUSION_LIST"=hex(7):65, 6b, 72, 6e, 2e, 65, 78, 65, 00, 00, 00

Normally it should not cause any problems even if ekrn.exe is not excluded from UPHC, I've been using it on WinXP with no problems.

I know about these KB articles. If that were true, there would not be a version 2.0 compatible for Vista being developed.
http://blogs.technet.com/uphclean/archive/2008/02/28/uphclean-v2-0-beta.aspx.

Hive issues are often seen in Vista versions, not XP when Uphclean is installed.
