Usually Manufacturers recommend you uninstall old drivers before you install new ones. This is sometimes the case when you can actually see the installation of those drivers in the Add\Remove programs list and if the new drivers you downloaded have an installer. If you download the bare drivers, no installer, you can go into the Device Manager and look for the specific device and click update driver which then you locate the drivers you just downloaded so they can get updated.
