Bootmagic problem

After a motherboard failure on a PC with a dual WinXP-WinME boot I have effectively a new PC with everything ghosted to new hard drives.
WinME will not run on the new motherboard (not supported) and is not needed.

Everything is working OK except that the following message appears after post:
"Bootmagic corrupt run configeration. press a key"
Partitionmagic is installed on both WinXP and WinME with Bootmagic on WinME and not available to "configure"

If I formatted the hidden primary partition that WinME/Bootmagic is using, then deleted the partition, would WinXP boot normally, without the Bootmagic message, or would I have to continue to "press a key" to complete booting?

(after spending 2 days updating the repair install of WinXP I am a tad timid to stuff it up)

It's been a few years since I've used BM but I recall similar issues. I'd uninstall BM and then reinstall if you feel you need it. If the error message persists I'd write new boot code with fdisk /mbr. This is safe and won't affect your partitions.

I found these in my old BM folder.

WinXP is your active partition. You won't have any problem booting this OS after BM has been uninstalled.

Thanks for replying, my problem is that I can't access the hidden WinME to uninstall anything.
I can "browse" the partition files/folders using Partition Magic, but dare not make the partition active because the WinME OS will not boot or run with the new motherboard etc.
If I do anything it has to be done using the WinXP OS ?

You can remove BM by running fdisk /mbr or fixmbr. Then you can reinstall it from WinXP if you want. Probably no need to reinstall as you don't intend to boot WinME. If it was my computer, I'd try to boot WinME to see if it works. This won't affect your ability to boot WinXP later.

PS.... Do you need to copy any files from the WinME partition?

Using a WinXP CD ? Any reference to step by step instr.?
No I don,t need anything from WinME.
Next step after getting WinXP to boot normally, will be to reclaim the hidden primary partition into C or D on the disc.

In the Recovery Console, type fixmbr at the prompt. You will probably see a message about your MBR being corrupt. Ignore it.

If you don't have an Admin password, just press Enter.

Writing new boot code should get rid of that error message. Let us know.

PS... I just had a look at the MBR warning. It's telling me I have a non standard or invalid MBR etc. Ignore it.
