Spyware Blaster does not have a resident shield. I believe it installs kill-bits (http://blogs.technet.com/swi/archive/tags/Kill-Bit/default.aspx) in the registry to block certain vulnerabilities/attacks. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Spyware Blaster blocks malicious sites and activeX controls for Internet Explorer, and bad cookies in Firefox. You update the database roughly once a month and enable the protections - that's it. It does not have a resident "real time" shield. There are some additional tools which may come in handy - just check them out. I'm not aware of there being a beta version at the moment.
I would definitely recommend using it, along with resident antivirus and antispyware.

No, it doesn't block any such thing. That's a browser job (and first of all the website administrator job to fix). The things you've mentioned that you "of course don't use" ??? do exactly that.

SpywareBlaster provides protection not just for Internet Explorer, but for a number of different browsers (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1259538&postcount=2) if you have them installed.
Since SpywareBlaster's Restricted Sites protection prevents potentially unwanted downloads, scripting, browser exploits, and more - it can, in fact, prevent some XSS attacks (by disabling scripting on potentially unwanted sites). :)

SpywareBlaster is free. When u say bought, are u referring to the optional auto updates feature?
