The 'both sides of the fence' issue is quite well-known.

Should you have any doubts about the trustworthiness of the vendor, there are lots of other options in the way of anti-KL'ing programs - I myself simply find it quite useful to have a cross-check in place for my primary A-KL'ing program (SpyCop).

I also, of course, have used 'msconfig' to take AKL out of the running unless I'm actually using it. Pete

Was just letting the rest of the public know ;)

I personaly don't think anybody should be using Keyloggers on anyones system without their knowledge.
I am giving the Author a BIG PLUS for developing his program.
Just seems wierd to be that they offer a keylogging system and also
offer a keylogging detection LOL
I never checkied to see if Anti-Keylogger will detect their software yet.
I would assume (ooppss assume) it would detect their keyloggers also

I forgot to mention Windows XP does have a Processes viewer and killer

Has anyone else noticed Anti_Keylogger alerting on Opera's vlink?

[7/5/2002 1:02:09 PM]
The following LOG-files are detected:
- c:\progra~1\opera\vlink4.dat

Anyone have any idea why it is? Pete

This is especially puzzling since (a) Opera wasn't even running at the time and (b) vlink.dat is looking really empty, to me. Pete

I am not sure what you are asking and I am not using Opera right now
but are you saying Anti_Keylogger is alerting you of the Visited links
data file? Which can be edited with The Opera File Explorer Add-On?

That was the second thing I checked it with, controler - it popped up a message that it couldn't find vlink4.dat. I'll check to see if my version of it is out-of-date. Pete

Pete,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we are only log files here, aren't we? Obviously, .dat files have been cleaned out - and IMHO that's what counts.

In extremis, log files could be abused - but only by someone having physical access to your system. Flagging those thus seems in essence OK, but is it in practice eg real life some kind of a risk?

paul

Well, not here it's not.

However, if AKL is going to flag logfiles - why just THAT one?

I'm just curious, not alarmed. (Opera is my 'business' browser). Pete

Question: are there any other log files in relation to possible abuse on your system?

paul

Not really sure I understand the question, but, no, I don't think so.

controler - ( <g> ) My copy of 04FE was the file version 0.0.4.0 (from August 08, 2000). Just a tad out-of-date! Got the new one and am fixing to install it. Thanks for jogging my brain into some semblance of activity!

Well, IMHO an anti-keylogger software should take care of issues that possible can abuse the info on your system. In case there are fe log files, but they don't compromise, there's no reason to flag them. If, on the other hand, fe some log files could possibly compromise, they ought the be flagged by the software.

Thus, if no such (other) possible compromising log files do exist, IMHO a) the software is in essence flagging as it should flag b) in practice, this flagging is of no importance.

paul

i just saw this post and thought i'd see if AKL also alerted on my vlink.dat; did the highest scan, but it didn't alert on it.

what version of Opera are you using?
i am using 6.03 (haven't updated to the newest version yet....maybe it changed what the vlink.dat file collects?)

just a thought

snapdragin - Using Opera v.6.04 Build 1135 here.
Hmm.
That's a thought - guess I'll have to travel over to Opera's NG.

Thanks for the idea! Pete
