What adware/popup blocker do you prefer?

For some reason NIS 2008 removed the adware/popup blocker feature from the optional Add-on Pack. Who knows why. I thought it worked fairly well in NIS 2007.

So what do you like as a replacement? I use both Firefox and MSN Premium (basically IE) as browsers. I would like to be able to blacklist specific addresses.

Hmm, well, both IE7 and Firefox have exceptional pop-up blockers built in. As for ads and spyware (and they can go hand in hand), SuperAntiSpyware and MBAM (Malwarebytes Anti-Malware) are both fantastic programs and both can be had as either free on-demand scanners only or paid full-blown real-time spyware blockers. To cut down on ads in Firefox, both AdBlock Plus and NoScript extensions help tremendously, with NoScript adding extra protection from malicious scripting.

Both SuperantiSpyware and MBAM work in IE for spyware-blocking. But if you want ad-blocking, it gets a little more complicated. For free, there is IE7Pro, which is a good pop-up blocker and ad blocker, or, for pay, AdMuncher, which I believe blocks only ads. To block actual websites, you may need to look into a HOST file that has been pre-made to block current malicious websites and can be also be edited to block websites chosen by you.

Ad Muncher. It blocks virtually all types of banner/pop-up advertisements.

For a standalone ad/popup blocker, nothing touches Ad Muncher, IMHO. I've been using it for years.

I know it's a bit expensive, but it's worth it, IMHO. You can use it for 30 days before paying.

To prevent popups I use firefox, but ime IE7 handles popups good too.
As for removing all ads I use modified hosts file (Hostsman (http://www.abelhadigital.com/)) it doesnt matter what browser you use since the entries in the hosts file block the ad servers.

I agree. I have been using Proxomitron for years. I don't know even a fraction about it as some do, but still it is very very effective. So effective that when I browse on a computer without it, I am unused to how the page looks with ads, almost like it is a strange site or something.

If you know anything about html etc, you can probably configure it pretty well. There are also many forums devoted to it and there are many rulesets you can download and apply.

Does anyone have any experience with Super Ad Blocker? Super Antispyware (SAS) from the same company seems to be popular with posters here.

Yep, I use SuperAdBlocker. It works okay, seems to block all ads. I have the realtime malware scanning turned off as I have SAS anyway.

The only downsides are it can slow browsing down a bit and it does not work with SandboxIE.

I use Spystopper sometimes as its faster and works with SandboxIE - but it has an annoying feature of blocking sponsered ads in Google - which u cant disable and it blocks a range of websites - which is a pain.

Kaspersky 2009's Banner Ad Blocker. Works fine, no browsing slowdown.:thumb:

Ad Blocker. Used it for years. Trust me when I say i've tried them all. Easily over 30 apps and IMHO Ad Muncher is the best i've used. But what works best for me might not be the best for someone else. Trial a few and decide for yourself. But don't go overboard and try 30+ like me. It's a loooooong process!!!

My faves were Ad Muncher, Superadblocker and Popup Cop.

im using Opera with implement advertising blocker and i update my HOST file with MVPS. It is free and good choice to forget any annoying pop-ups.
