If you are multibooting and added an OS but only one OS is booted see if the "time out" in "msconfig" jibes with the one in "my computer". I added an XP Pro and only the XP home booted up and yes all was well with the "time out" in the "my computer" boot.ini file (an XP Pro also existed).
But when I checked in "msconfig" it was listed as only 1 second! thus no Microsoft boot loader!!
Once I changed this all 3 Windows OS were listed in the Microsoft boot loader!
This is the only time it has happened to me in well over 50 clean installs of XP.
This might also happen when adding a restore image-who knows?
So heads -up, an easy remedy may exist.
