I wanted to get some opinions on my new combo in reference to spyware/malware detection/protection. I am running the latest Mcafee suite with AS and just purchased SAS lifetime license which seems to run fine along with Mcafee with no issues. However I feel pretty confident in the SAS capabilities but while I know there aren't alot of Mcafee fans on this board, I personally like the AV & Firewall. Never had any issues and I personally never felt the Mcafee AS portion was any good at all. So what does everyone think. Is SAS along with the Mcafee suite good enough or should I also need an on demand scanner too? Opinions are appreciated...

Forgot to mention I am running on Vista Home Premium SP1 x32

Hi

I think it's quite safe, but you can add a sandbox.

I suggest adding Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and a-squared Anti-Malware FREE. More blacklist scanners, better chances of detecting malware (but also higher FPs).

I would suggest adding Ewido Micro Scanner/ Anti Spyware for occasional on demand scans.
I have used McAfee Anti Spyware before and it was quite weak, but I doubt that you'll need more than SAS + Ewido

Can you still download Ewido? AVG aquired Ewido, right?

Yes, you can download ewido anti spyware here http://filehippo.com/download_avg_antispyware/tech/1331/

and ewido Micro Scanner here http://downloads.ewido.net/ewido_micro.exe

Micro Scanner downloads every time the updates, and needs to installation, but suffers from lower removal rate than Ewido anti spyware overall.

How long are the updates still going to be continued?

Thanks

Thanks for the answer. So I guess it's not a permanent solution.:'(

Yes...thanks to Grisoft>:(
Anyway SAS is very good, I think it will soon be more than enough ( if it isn't already). :thumb:

Thanks for the input guys I appreciate it and from what I can tell it appears I am fairly safe with this combo. I would rather not be messing with alot of FPs by overdoing it. So I will give this config a run for awhile and see what happens.
