Hello,
paragon want me to to upload one of my images 7GB to there server so they can do some tests. since its hard to sleep with my computer on i wish to transfer the image to my usb hard drive.
the transfer rate for usb external drive in vista starts at around 200kb/sec.....
yes no kidding.
if i try to transfer the file from my second hard drive to my first transfer rate starts at 54mb/sec then after one second drops down to 36mb then 24mb then finaly 5mb.
is there any bootable cd i could use to simplely transfer files from internal hard driver to internal hard drive. and also internal hard drive to external hard drive?
or even some software for vista to avoid the rubbish explorer transfer speeds.
thanks in advance
lodore

Hi Lodore,

you can use teracopy (http://www.codesector.com/download.php). Download the version 2.0 beta3; it is very stable and much better than 1.22.
-{ Quote: "TeraCopy is a compact program designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed, providing the user a lot of features:

* Copy files faster. TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times. Asynchronous copy speeds up file transfer between two physical hard drives.
* Pause and resume file transfers. Pause copy process at any time to free up system resources and continue with a single click.
* Error recovery. In case of copy error, TeraCopy will try several times and in the worse case just skips the file, not terminating the entire transfer.
* Interactive file list. TeraCopy shows failed file transfers and lets you fix the problem and recopy only problem files.
* Shell integration. TeraCopy can completely replace Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you work with files as usual.
* Full Unicode support.
* Free for Home Users." }-

Hello, just tested it,its very fast as compared with windows build in (expl.),it excell in copy between different drives. if i copy from ext. USB drive to my C part. it is 3 times faster then explorer. Copy between internal drives i see barely a difference. :thumb:

Copy Handler has many more options than the free versions of Teracopy. I recently tried all of the free file handling replacement programs I could find; Copy Handler was the best IMHO.

''IMHO its the best'' is meaningless, please give some figures for a clearer picture.

Some things I like about Copy Handler:
-can resume partially completed file copy/move
-can change the priority of a copy/move job
-can pause and resume copy/move jobs independently of one another
-can replace Explorer's copy/move handling
-is an active project
-works with Vista
-can resume a copy/move job when you restart the operating system
-there is a queue for copy/move jobs, so not all jobs need to execute at the same time
-mini status window showing copy/move job progress
-very configurable (see links below):

I didn't test speed differences between Copy Handler and Explorer. My reasons for using this are for the other functionality.

Another excellent freebie is DriveImage XML.

The program allows you to Copy directly from drive to drive

edit; Ultimate Boot Cd contains several copy apps. also .

Look under Hard Disk Cloning Tools

here (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/)

Teracopy can do all the above. (except from being very configurable)
What is it that make Copy Handler better? Does it provide checksum verification as teracopy?

There were some features like queue management that, if I recall correctly, are present only in the paid version of Teracopy. Copy Handler does not have checksum verification, if I recall correctly.
