Sharing folders between Windows and Linux

Hi all,

I have written an article demonstrating sharing of folders between Windows and Linux:

- takes only 5 minutes
- using GUI only
- using a Slackware-based (no less!) distro, the phenomenal Wolvix
- the Linux distro is running a firewall to make things more challenging.

Linux has become a breeze. Fun, simple, easy, and you don't need to break your fingers typing in terminal.

A well thought out and clear tutorial there Mrk. As it's aimed at noobs / newbies perhaps it's worth writing tutorials for Suse, Ubuntu and such. Or is this a way of trying to convert a few to Wolvix:P

Just to show that even scary Linuxes are simple.
Sharing with Ubuntu is even simpler. SUSE, pretty much the same.
Once you get the idea, it's the same for all.

Linux has it all, security, speed and stability, all it now needs is a good chat client with voice and video, one of the saddest and flakiest aspect in any distro. Gyachi sucks, aMSN sucks, Kopete is junk. No voice and not reliable video. I know the problem is Yahoo and MSN not divulging their codecs but still it can be done.

Skype is good but not everyone has it unfortunately and it doesn't work under x64 Ubuntu. OTOH, x64 Opera under Ubuntu is a speed devil, it beats out x32 Opera under Windows or Linux and beats out other browsers as well.

How bout enabling smb and nfs and then using SSH to transfer files between Windows and Linux.

my list of reasons for not using linux is getting shorter.
that reminds me i may post at the media monkey forums and ask them weither they would concider porting it over to linux.
i cant wait to be completely free from windows. no nfts partitions, no half baked OS. the main problem is big companies not porting there software over. also companies not providing drivers linux. such as creative and theif x-fi sound cards.

Hello,
You can use SSH, but no need in a secure (home) environment. But it's doable...
NFS is *nix only, so it leaves Samba ... if you're using Linux only, then your best and simplest option is secure copy (scp), ssh-wrapped copy.
