USB or PS2

Has any one noticed a difference when the mouse connected through USB port or PS2 port?
In my case (P4@2.6MHz 768Mb RAM) I found PS2 gives smooth/trouble free mouse operations. While with USB2 the mouse does not operate smoothly even with the correct driver installed. Can any one shed a light on this? Thank you

You might try this update for usb 1and2 if you have win. xp

I can't get the link to work so just go to windows update and on top of the page click on windows family when you get there type kb822603 in the search box on right top of page when the search page opens it will be the first update article. This might help and it might not but it sure shouldn't hurt.

Thank you. The puter is new and has all the updates and fixes. All USB ports are USB2.

My comp is also new but this patch is for all xp os.. I also have all 2.0 USB.

Thanks, actually the patch you are referring to is for blaster worm without it you get infected means my xp is already immuned.

Just a side note, a little advantage of ps/2 is that sometimes you can use your mouse in setup programs that are used for setting up hard drives and so on that run outside of windows. with USB mouses, they normally will not be recognized.
...in answer to your question, no i have not noticed that usb is a poorer performer. I would say however that if you are using two different pointing devices (mice) that there could simply be a quality difference. My usb device is a logitech optical wheel mouse. It requires no separate driver, and it works great. My ps/2 marble mouse worked great until it apparently finally wore out. Both work(ed) great.
