Hi,
I'm using Vista Home Premium,
and I am looking for a easy-to-use firewall.
Free or Paid doesn't matter,
I just want a firewall that is almost set it and forget it,
if there is any. :-\
Thanks in advance!

Kerio (the versions made by Sunbelt are more set and forget, I'd say)
Sygate
Look 'n' Stop (incompatible by default with some internet facing apps)
Rising
PC Tools
Ashampoo
Filseclab
ZoneAlarm Free (pro has an HIPS)
The firewall in almost every suite
... and others I can't think of now :)

Yesterday, I have bought Online Armor two years licence for my laptop.
I tried almost every firewall and like Online Armor very much.
So my suggestion is for Online Armor

If you are looking for a firewall + HIPS combo, IMO none of them are technically 'easy' because you have to know how to answer it's questions.
As for a straight up firewall, many firewalls allow you to make custom rulesets. I use one that allows me to put in 2 simple presets. Allow and Deny. Simple as that. Up pops the box asking if this program can go online. I just have to decide Allow or Deny.
There is no such thing as a set it and forget it firewall if you are looking to do outbound application control becasue at some point you will install programs that need to have a rule set for them.
If you want set it and forget it, probably the easiest option would be the windows firewall. Next best option would be to get a firewall that does not do application control, but does let you state what ports/addresses are allowed. AS3, SoftPerfect and Ghostwall are some good examples of that I believe.

I think both Rising and PC Tools are the easiest to use (in that order).

The easiest firewall I have used by far has to be Mcafee's enterprise firewall I got from university some years back
From memory it was called "McAfee Desktop Firewall 8.0".
However I had some while back read that it was not very secure so stopped using it.
The second easiest has to be Online Armor's firewall. I would definitely recommend trying this.

The op has vista.Mcafee desktop8,Online armor,Kerio, Sygate,i'm not sure about filescab, don't work on vista.
Vista built in i think is very good ,you can make what rules you want, you can add sphinx addon for outbound control.I'm using outpost 2009 now ,is great ,but i'm not sure it can be described as an easy solution compared with vista's built in with sphinx.

Taking
easy * safe = Online Armor
Others may be easier (a bit) or safer (a bit). I tested almost all of them. The only problem with OA for Vista is it is not released yet. But as for me I'm happy with RC beta.

I suppose you have an account for the TallEmu Forum. If so ask there for a key to test OA for Vista.

Gerard
