I don't use any Microsoft Office software (only the viewers), but my
sister in law does, and Secunia PSI flagged Word, Excel, Powerpoint as
'insecure'. She gets her updates downloaded automatically from
the Windows Update site. Would she perhaps need to "Upgrade" to
Microsoft Updates to get the patches for these 'insecure' programs ?
(The notebook came preinstalled with all this stuff in 2003.)

Regards.

The Microsoft Office viewers should also be updated with the patches for the Office .

First for you -> if you use Windows XP , you can update them from office.microsoft.com (select the Office update section) or upgrade to Microsoft Update.

I recommend you use Office update because I find Microsoft Update a bit slower than Windows Update.

If you use Windows Vista , you can only update the viewers from Microsoft Update.

She has the same options - either update manually from Office update (http://office.microsoft.com) or upgrade to Microsoft Update and use it for automatically download the update for ALL Microsoft software on her computer

Thank you very much HiTech_boy. I was stupid thinking all the time
that the viewers would be updated via Windows Update. All is fine now.

(PS. miss you from the NOD forum) :)
