This is a notice to all HostsMan users, currently using hpHosts.

Because I am seeing hundreds of requests per second coming in from HostsMan users*, I must request you please set HostsMan to check a maximum of TWICE PER DAY, and not every other second, as is the case now.

Whilst I do not want to ban the HostsMan user agent, the servers cannot handle the amount of traffic they are generating (the HM traffic currently accounts for 60% of the traffic coming into the network).

* the traffic I am seeing is only from a small sub-set of HM users, but amounts to a mini dDos due to the frequency in which they are doing it.

I hope that the users that somehow have set HostsMan to check for updates for more than twice a day follow Steven's request, otherwise, there won't be hpHosts for HostsMan users.

Thanks. " }-

I feel Mr. Burns is well justified with his post. IMO, updating the HOSTS file once a month is more than enough (even if the HOSTS file you're downloading is updated more often.) The HOSTS file is a longer term approach for ad blocking, problem sites (which can exist for many reasons) and more.) A managed HOSTS file is not an antivirus substitute and should not be considered as such. There is no reason to try to update it constantly...

Instead of merely posting notices, the developer of HostsMan (abelhadigital.com) should modify his application so that it is not able to cause such a absurd number of server accesses.
