Can no longer open .doc files in Vista System

[Escalader]

On an HP system with vista, user can no longer open certain files. Main example is word files arriving as email attachments. Word file was scanned by the AV and found to be clean. File can be saved on the PC but not opened.

The file when forwarded to an xp sp3 user was scanned clean by Nod32 and could be opened and read.

What's happening with this Vista system? It could read doc filles and now it can't?

The problem on the vista system has been solved.

MS Works was able to open the .doc file.

BTW, the HP desk top had a limited time/trial on MS Office word so it had run out. Their link to find the licence code even the temporary one was AWOL.

I could have installed an older version of Office but held back, since orginal issue was over. Would have ended up with Works, an expired Office plus the older xp version. Bloat cubed.>:(

I'm going to strip that vista to the minimum! Anybody know if decrappifier works on vista?
