Hi

I found this program called SparkleXP (http://www.sparklexp.com/).

"SparkleXP is an application designed to tweak Windows XP and improve its performance,
it helps freeing up computer resources resulting in a faster and responsive computer.
This tool creates a second Hardware Profile and a correlative new User to get a lightweight desktop.
You can choose to boot into your regular or SparkleXP configuration at startup.
Play your core!"

Has anyone heard of it? It does seem unique.

Thanks

I just took a glance at the screenshots, and I don't see a point in using this app.

Duh, you would have faster and more responsive system, but you won't have anything running on it.
I'm perplexed as I may be missing something...

Buying a faster dual processor + 2gb RAM and disable all the visual gadgetry improved really the performance of my system.
All the rest was nonsense.

Hi,

Can you please explain how to adjust visuals on a XP. Thanks.

There aren't many keyword's to choose from. :D *Hint: make a slight mod to you're search phrase - adjust for best performance.

And write all these settings down, otherwise you will forget them, when you install your computer ever again.

Hi

Cool! Thanks for the advice. But do you know how much it increases performance by?

Thanks

Hi

Well you can still open applications. I think it's mainly targeted at gamers.

Thanks

Hi Someone,

I checked it out and it disables automatically the same services that I disable myself on my game or video editing configurations.
And since it will save me from some minutes of manually tweaking next time, is a keeper for me. :thumb:

Thanks,
Panagiotis

Has Pandlouk :shifty: swayed you're decision?

Hi

I downloaded it and installed it, then I clicked on SparkleStats (a shortcut on the desktop) and many alerts from OA popped up. I allowed all the orange ones then a red one came up and said it was a known malware! I blocked and it immediately scanned with SAS and MBAM. MBAM did not detect anything but SAS said it was a trojan! So I quarantined it.

Does anyone else also see this? Maybe I downloaded a hijacked version by mistake? SparkleXP is on SourceForge and SiteAdvisor and Linkscanner and WOT all shows green. I also have AntiVir free and it did not alert me to anything.

Thanks

Most likely a false positive. Creates scriptoff.exe and scripton.exe files in C:\WINDOWS\system32\GroupPolicy\User\ directory and tries to modify hklm\...\currentversion\runonce and hklm\...\currentversion\run keys which maybe construed by SAS as malware behavior.

That should drop SO's paranoia a notch or two. :D
