Hi,

I have Acronis True Image Home 9.0 Build 3,854. I don't see any new builds to download and I was wondering has Acronis created a build to allow 9.0 to clone to a removable hard drive yet. The last time I researched this, Acronis 9.0 could only back up to removable media, but not clone. Can any one tell me if this is now possible?

Thank you.

I dug out an old copy of Version 9, build 3633 and it has the clone function.

I simulated or practiced doing a clone from and to the USB drive and it did not reject the simulation. Without actually doing the function, it appears the answer is yes you can--providing your usb drive is recognized..

However, your best chance for success is to do what is referred to on this forum as a reverse clone and perform the clone when booted up from the TI Rescue CD.

A reverse clone is removing the old drive and place it in another internal slot or external enclosure.
Install the new drive where the old drive was.
Bootup from the TI Rescue CD and perform either a clone or a restore of all partitions.
Disconnect the original before booting up the first time after cloning or restoring.

A more detailed procedure is available in My guide to Manual Cloning using the TI Rescue CD (http://grover.tabinc.com/gh-temp/gh_acronis_manual_cloning.pdf). This is work in progress but it should help.

As my guide states, my recommendation is the Partition Restore with Resizing. Using this procedure, your original is never at risk. A linke to my guide for this procedure is on line 3 of my signature below.

Version 11 is the current version of Acronis TrueImage Home.

You may have the latest build for version 9. Whatever is available to you can be found at your personal login page where your version is registered. Link below.

GroverH,
Thank you for your reply and the update link. I used to clone a second internal hard drive as backup, but connecting and disconnecting it from my computer was inefficient. May I ask if the latest version of Acronis 11 allows cloning to a USB external-cased hard drive without going through the extra reverse backup procedure and how much it would cost to update from my Acronis Home 9?
