I have installed ibuntu and I am having problems listening to internet radio. I have downloaded xmms but have not been able to get it to play. When I click on a station it comes up to open with movie player or other. I click on other and insert the downloaded file "xmms" and click open but I cannot get the program o work. What am I doing wrong?

Are you using Streamtuner? If so, there is a place in the options where you can tell it which app to use, but I think it defaults to xmms anyway. Not sure what or how you're trying to play streams there...... If you're not using Streamtuner, you might try that, it works well with xmms for me on Ubuntu and many other distros...

I am not using streamtuner. I just went to shoutcast.com and tried to play some music. When I tried to install xmms where it said OPEN WITH I couldn't get it to work. I am just starting with linux and I am lost.

Not sure what's going on there, but you may have to edit your file associations. Or alternately, just install Streamtuner from the repositories and perhaps reinstall xmms, and it should work fine. Streamtuner has Shoutcast in it as well as several others....

Can't you just open it with Movie Player? That works for me.

I looked at streamtuner but it looks like it is different for whatever copy of linux you have. I have ubuntu installed. Where would I download streamtuner that works with ubuntu?

I tried opening shoutcast this morning with movie player and it opened it. Thanks for the suggestion. I am still going to download streamtuner if I can determine which one and how to download it. Everything seems to be different in linux. I have one more problem to fix. I setup my email for evolution mail and I cannot get it to take my password. I googled it and did not get an answer.

GF, your links above aren't working...
Bamaman66: I'd try removing xmms and then reinstalling it, maybe something happened on the first install that's causing the problem.
