View Full Version : Full backup not working. BSOD

I am using the trial version of Acronis TI 11. I created a boot disk on a cd-r and I then created a full backup(image) and burned that to a blank dvd.

Basically got 4 brand new dell optiplex 755 systems and want the exact same image on all 4 machines. So I used the boot cd on the 2nd dell machine. Selected restore and went through the process. Completes the restore but I do not get the message saying this system must be rebooted at any time.

It goes back to the main menu were I can select to do a restore or backup etc but at no time asks me to reboot. When I select exit and the system boots up, I get as far as the windows spash screen and then a blue screen of death.

Any ideas?

Even though the Dells are the same model number, something is different in the hardware. True Image is very very picky about hardware and will not restore correctly on a different machine. There are two options:

1. Use the extra cost Universal Restore add-on to a Worstation version of True Image.

2. Before you make the Image, change the Display Adapter type to Standard VGA. Then do the restore. During this restore, the system will go through a whole slew of "Found New Hardware" items ... go make yourself a pot of coffee. ;D. When the system is done with finding new hardware, check in Device Manager to see which drivers need to be updated - the Display Adapter will be one.

Actually I discovered the problem was the 1st Dell machine was set to legacy in the bios and the 2nd wasn't. This cause a huge conflict.

All is working well now :)

I don't think I'd have thought of that or expected that it would make such a significant difference.
