Hi All,

I'm using Outlook 2007 as I need it to organise my life and synchronise with my phone. I rely on my mail provider (google and yahoo) to scan and remove dangerous attachments/exploit code.

However I'd like to do something on my end too. I cant get sandboxie to work properly with it.

Is there something I can do to make it more secure, i.e. disabling previewing, removing exectuable code etc? If so, where can I go to find where these settings are?

Also are there other sandboxes or programs that can help me secure it?

I've almost got it working in Sandboxie, but not quite. I use Online Armor paid, and I run Outlook under the run safer option. Reduces it's rights, and the rights of any other programs it might kick off. Also since IE is forced into Sandboxie, when Outlook kicks off IE, it's sandboxed. Thats as far as I go with it.

Pete

What are your setting with Outlook and Sandboxie?

No point in my giving them to you as they don't work quite right. Also you need 3.26-12. Link is in one of the Outlook threads.

Thanks for the suggestions though. Have you tried with safespace for example?

Here are some of the settings I have. Under the Safe Senders tab I also have checked the box to trust email from my Contacts.

Most of those settings are found under: Tools-> Options and you can turn off the reading pane under: View-> Reading pane. Keep the junk email filter updated via MS. You can also modify Zone Settings to restrict such things as Java, ActiveX and downloads.

Thanks for that. I've had a look at that but cant implement the white listing approach as I get emails from different sources.

I cant seem to find it. Are you sure this is for 2007?

You can always drag-and-drop them back into your INBOX from the JUNK E-MAIL box, and also right-click on them to add the sender or the sender's domain to your safe list. It is not like you no longer get them; rather, they just are not automatically delivered to your INBOX.

I'm sitting in front of 2003 now so, unfortunately, I'm not sure yet. Still, those settings are under one of those menus for 2007.

It is under the tools menu of IE on my Vista PC. In fact, I had to tweak those Zone Settings in IE to get FireFox 3 to permit downloads; FireFox 2 worked fine.

How do you mean you had to configure it through IE? Can you please post some screenshots?

Thanks

Oh I see. And this applies to how outlook handles scripts etc?

Can't say for sure, but it does affect Firefox 3 and it is the only place I have found security zones in the MS OS

It looks like you can get there from Control Panel or from IE.

I think what you have to use is the "Trust Center" you can find in the options (see screen 1). There you can manage the secutity options of Outlook 2007 (see screen 2).

Sorry, I have the German version only... ;-)
