Nod32 has a very low footprint in every respect including drive accesses during idle time (which is an issue which somehow bugs me, although many people think it is normal)
I know (first hand, being a user for years) Bitdefender is heavy on drive activity during idle times. Then I tried Kaspersky 2009 beta just out of curiocity and it too is heavy on drive activity during idle times --> http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=71470&st=0#entry657872
Nods32 and Avira are the only two I know that have *zero* impact on drive wear-and-tear at idle.
This is very good for Nod32 (and Avira) and I hope it stays that way :D
