Outlook Archive files

Hello,

(Using NOD32 Antivirus Business Edition 3.0.650 and 657)

I have some end users that either have password protected archive files and/or are on laptops that travel remotely.

The one user who has password protected archive files has complained that ever since NOD32 was installed on his system, he is always prompted to enter the passwords for his archive files. Whereas, before installing NOD32, he wasn't prompted to enter a password until he actually accessed the specific archives. He does not want it to always prompt him for a password upon starting Outlook 2000. How do we change this behavior in NOD32?

The other user just has regular archive files without password protection, but when he travels, (because his archive files are on the network) he is given error dialogs for each archive file that is inaccessible. It does not matter that he is unable to access the archive files. He just wants access to his Outlook 2003 inbox (without the errors like before NOD32 was installed). How do we change this behavior in NOD32?

I have no clue what password you mean - EAV/ESS do not affect password protected archive in any way. If you are to scan a pwd protected archive, EAV/ESS will just inform you that it could not be scanned because of the password protection and you won't be prompted to enter a password whatsoever.

Hi Marco. Thank you for your reply. Let me go a little more in depth...

Say I have a Windows XP computer. This computer is fully patched through Windows Update. On this Windows XP computer, I have installed either Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2003. Whichever one that is installed is fully patched as well. At this moment, there is no Antivirus protection.

So, I create an Outlook mail profile to connect to my Exchange server. I add to this profile an Outlook archive file and I password protect it. Now, say I close Outlook and open it back up. When I open it back up, I am NOT prompted for a password (until I physically click on the archive file). At that point it will prompt me for a password. So, everything's hunky dory right?

Okay, now I add NOD32 Antivirus Business Edition 3.x to that computer. I configure it to "Integrate into Microsoft Outlook". Now, when I open Outlook, the first thing I am prompted is to "Type the password for archive.pst" (and it does this for every archive file that is protected with a password). My remote users do not want this.

If I go back into the NOD32 configuration and uncheck the box "Integrate into Microsoft Outlook", and open Outlook again; it does not prompt me for my archive password.

So, to go back on what you said, "EAV/ESS do not affect password protected archive in any way", I have to disagree. Yes, it does not change the contents of the file, but does cause the end user grief having to click through the dialog boxes (especially if the archive file does not exist locally, because then it gives an error that the archive file cannot be found).

Try it, I'm sure you'll get the same results.
