Hello, I purchased the Acronis True Image 11 (8052) yesterday since one of the two laptops I have started to get loads of errors and progressively worsened until it just fails to start up Windows now. This happened during my attempt to manually backup important files and photos, so half those files/photos are still in this HDD.

This is the summary of what I've done yesterday:
Purchased Acronis True Image and downloaded it onto my working laptop with Japanese Windows Vista Business.

Created boot CD on this working system, took it out and inserted disc into my broken laptop which has Japanese Windows XP business.

This laptop would not start up with any option including safemode... they all lead to the blue screen with a stop # 0x00000024.

So I started up with the Acronis bootCD, followed instructions and set to create a back up of the entire computer onto my external HD and started the process.

...It has been about 8 hours since, the progress bar is still only showing 2 green blocks and I have seen at least 40 "failed to read" error messages, with digits in the x,xxx, xxx to xx,xxx, xxx level. I have been "ignore"ing them one by one and writing down those digits up until now, but looking at the progress and just how much errors I am getting I decided to "ignore all" just a few minutes ago. I am beginning to seriously worry if this is going to work at all.... should I have tried backing up just the files/data, or break down the back up to smaller portions at a time? or does this mean that Acronis is not going to help with my situation and my last straw of hope is to send off my laptop to one of those data recovery companies? Help!

Stop 0x00000024 is Vista telling you either it doesn't like a driver (it has found a driver that is not Vista approved whilst installing) or that the file system or partition is knackered.

You will need to use a Vista Cd/DVD choose Windows Recovery and run chkdsk /r

No.... it's the Window's XP that is having the problem, not the Vista.

XP does not come with a recovery disc. When I talked to the Toshiba customer service they told me that I need to try to recover the data from the HD somehow before I attempt to wipe out the computer and reload Windows XP again.

The only reason I'm trying Acronis is because I am trying to salvage my files in the HD... if it doesn't work or, if leaves out too many sectors that had the "unable to read" error, I'd consider sending the laptop off to some pro data recovery companies... this is my last resort struggle until I do that.

To retrieve your files, get a usb enclosure for the laptop drive, put the drive in it and connect it to a desktop system or the other laptop. The use Windows Explorer to copy the files from the drive.

Hello Luvbrace,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).

We are sorry for delayed response.

We may recommend you to try using "sector by sector" imaging method. Unfortunately, in cases of physical decline of a drive (which appears to be the case here), Acronis True Image can only read as much of the drive's data as the drive condition allows.

Thank you.
