Ran across this and thought it might interest some people. CA is offering a 1 year free trial of CA Anti-Virus (http://home3.ca.com/SubscriptCenter/MSTrialRegistration.aspx?cid=573).

I wouldn't use this offer either, however, the EZ-Trust 1 year promo had one advantage. It could work fine as on demand AV without any running background services. I wonder if this version can do the same. If so, it would be good to have it as on demand, for a second opinion.

I'm not sure why anyone would consider CA as an on-demand scanner when you can run CureIt (standalone .exe), Kaspersky AVP tool, F-Secure, Nod32, or even Bitdefender online scans which are superior in every aspect.

They are superior, no doubt. But except for Dr. Web Cure it, for some it is more cosy to have the AV on the hard disk, rather than installing an activeX and scripts that online scanners use. The few times i did online scan, it also took like forever. Maybe the connection speed is also a limiting factor?

Anyway, it was just an idea. If it doesn't run background processes, i see no harm in having something on demand. Granted , its reputation for detection isn't great, but you can never know in a moment of need.

Which is why it's a good idea to think ahead and keep an assortment of anti-malware tools on removable media, in addition to known good images of your HDD. With so many reputable tools out there IMO it makes no sense to settle for less.

Yes they are doing so bad but the worst thing it that they still have self space at most retailers.

Yea, Gosh, What happen to them. They did not have to be so poor. They have been around a while and should have the where with all to be at least as good as the other three majors. Norton, McAfee and Trend. :doubt: I don't get it.
