If at next bootup I'd like to > not launch < the usual apps, so as to perform specific task/s, & then readily return to normal startup... is there a quick easy way to do that?

There are certain tasks now & then I'd like to do, off-line of course, & as such I don't need certain apps running. Choice of startup/s, would speed things up too, or should. ;-)

Thanks, for any ideas, and help on this.

Bit difficult to shut down the usual apps on demand,as most force load at boot, for example the firewall.

A better option would be to download SmartClose here (http://bmproductions.fixnum.org/smartclose/index.htm)

It will close down all the usuals AFTER startup,so you can still perform any tasks.

After a reboot, everything is back to normal.

Safe mode will also start with restricted drivers etc.

You can use Autoruns to create profiles of startup items. Create one profiles as is, then disable all items you want and create another profile.

Then you just have to load the profile you want and reboot.

Hairy Coo - thanks for info about the program, that you mentioned.

WSFuser - yet again, you proved your status as a "National Treasure" with info on AutoRuns; while I have/use it for the usual look-see approach, I had no idea about profiles therein, that you mention. <slapping self on forehead>

Many thanks, & I'll try that. ;-)
