I've just tried copying an installation of XP from an internal disk to an external USB drive. Copy went fine. OS Selector sees the XP installation but I get blue-screen during startup.
Should this be possible? I'm guessing that it's due to the HDD controller changing from IDE to USB??
Am I going to have to go down this route and start a fresh install: http://www.ngine.de/article/id/8
Thanks for your help

You will have to make changes to XP to get it to run from a USB device (like in the link).
You can't just copy it from an internal to an external. The error you're getting has nothing to do with OSS.
Even if you do this and get it running off the USB drive, don't expect to be able to run it from another computer. It would be the same as taking the internal drive out, putting it into a different computer and expecting it to boot.

i get that it isn't an issue with OSS.
i've been running a dual boot of XP. becasue of lack of spcae on my SSD i was hoping to run one partition and boot to the USB drive when i need the other.
instead of messing with the install i've just P2V'd the second partition to the the USB. works a treat.
