Thank you for that Kinwolf.
I've just install Avast free and wanted to check if it works ago - passed the test with flying colours
Thanks

Just a question. Is the file supposed to be identified once it is downloaded and scanned, or before it is fully downloaded?

I've noticed some scanners will identify the file once it is downloaded and then manually scanned.

Others will identify it before the file is even downloaded. Are these scanners http/web guard scanners?

If you get a warning before the save/open dialog comes up then yes you have HTTP scanning. If anything else EICAR helps you to identify if your security has this capacity. For example there is no mention of HTTP scanning in OneCare's features but this test told me that it does indeed have it.
