hello,
i was wondering how i keep using nearly 100percent of my 2gb of ram.
IE7 with one tab and the home page www.msn.com one process ieuser.exe uses 16mb of ram and iexplore.exe uses 52mb of ram.
itunes is using nearly 160mb of ram.
opera with 27tabs is using 290mb of ram which isnt bad concidering ie7 using 68mb of ram for just msn.com
i dont have any slowdown but im still wondering why my apps seem to be using loads of ram.

if you have the ram, vista will use it for better performance.
you could add an extra gb of ram, and probably still use the same percentage of ram.

Same case here, vista is a RAM gobbler. I don't know if it helps to improve performance. Compare to windows xp it does eat lot ram but i see that if i wake it from sleep it uses less memory than before going to sleep. ;D

Ram usage may relate to the superfetch feature:
One thing with Vista is that under memory management in the registry it still retains the Prefetch setting along with Superfetch and both are set at 3 which defines both features to control boot and app launch?
-{ Quote: "Windows SuperFetch:
A new memory management technology in Windows Vista, Windows SuperFetch, helps keep the computer consistently responsive to your programs by making better use of the computer's RAM.
Windows SuperFetch prioritizes the programs you're currently using over background tasks and adapts to the way you work by tracking the programs you use most often and preloading these into memory. With SuperFetch, background tasks still run when the computer is idle.
However, when the background task is finished, SuperFetch repopulates system memory with the data you were working with before the background task ran. Now, when you return to your desk, your programs will continue to run as efficiently as they did before you left." }-

It is probably Superfetch you see in action. In my task manager shot below it shows only 36MB free but in actuality only 38% of my 2GB is being used. Linux uses this kind of prefetching as well. If you got the RAM might as well use it or it may develop cobwebs, lol.
