Not enough privileges to reboot - Vista

Hi

I have just tried to split a sata drive on my new Vista Home Premium computer, all goes well until a reboot is required when I get the following message ...

E00A03EE: Unable to update the registry
Cannot reboot Windows you might not have enough privileges to reboot.

The odd thing is that I had managed to resize and make a new partition on another drive in the computer, which required a reboot, when I first got the computer. I have installed more software, all mainstream stuff since and cannot think of anything that may cause the problem.

Any suggestions?

Colin,

Do you have a current backup image of the drive (like an Entire Disk Image using TI)? There is always the chance of data loss when doing partitioning procedures.

I would avoid "splitting" if at all possible. Can you do a resize / new partition procedure instead? Do the resize first and apply those changes and then create a new partition in the unallocated space.

Have you tried doing the procedure from the DD CD instead of from in Windows?

Was DD installed for All Users? Was it installed in Administrator Mode?

Sorry for a long delay in replying, I decided to rebuild from scratch my C drive, yes I have a full TIbackup , to see if I could sort out the problem.

The short answer is no. So at the moment it would seem I have wasted money buying the program.

I also discovered that when trying to run DD from a boot secnario it does not even see my drives, so basically I can do very little with the program.

I am not sure where to start looking for at least a clue as to what is happening.

If you have newer hardware then the problem is most likely to be the Linux drivers available in the boot-mode version of DD. The program has not been updated in a while so the driver support is getting dated.

What might work for you is one of the following:

1. Boot DD in the "safe" mode. You should be able to see your internal disk but will lose network support and perhaps USB. However, these are not needed if you are only partitioning your internal disk.
2. Build a BartPE disk and use one of Mustang's plugins. You may need to include your SATA driver in the BartPE build.
3. Build a VistaPE disk, which should support most of today's hardware natively. Again, Mustang has VistaPE scripts available for DD10.

The first suggestion is probably the easiest.
