Not even one alert

I tried 'Zone' firewall last to last week, I got various alerts(after installation) saying that " An application is trying to access internet etc"
Now, I installed ESS, and it's been a week, I havn't got one alert.
Is it just the nature of ESS to not ask(cant figure out why firewall would be like that) about apps accessing the internet?

In automatic mode, no pop-up windows appear. If you want to be prompted to allow or deny specific communication, switch to the interactive mode.
