View Full Version : space lost after merging partitions

Disk director is doing some things that I didn’t expect. I have deleted and wiped a partition I no longer needed. After doing this, I had some 2.5G of unallocated space. I could not figure out how to add this unallocated space to one of my other partitions, so I created a new partition out of this unallocated space and named it disk G. Then I tried to merge partition G with my partition F, which was 15G. After the merge, I have ended up with only one partition F, but it’s only 2.5G in size, which is partition G’s old size. I have completely lost the 15G of partition F.
Does anyone know how to solve this?

I "solved" my problem: when I looked properly, I noticed that the partition wasn't 15Gb, but 15Mb... so the merge went allright, I just didn't notice the extra 15Mb being added to 2.5Gb. :-[

Is this the proper way to reclaim unallocated space?

First, make it into a new partition
Second, merge this new partition into the one i want bigger
??

I was trying to reclain space on my home pc yesterday and it was working so well :(

No, using the "merge" function is not the right way to do this. What you want to do is to "resize" one of your existing partitions to include the unallocated space.

So click Re-size on an existing partition
and then I'll be able to increase it to the value of the unpartitioned space??

I don't think i tried that
but i will shortly!!

Thanks

Is the unallocated space located next to the partition you want to make larger?
