Steam client NOT working since install

Since installing Smart Security after upgrading from plain old NOD32, I can no longer connect to the steam client. I have attempted rule mode, automated modem and turned both functions off. There is no way I can connect for some odd reason since this install.

Does shutting down the firewall make a difference?

In playing around today, I think I figured a way around it.

1) I disabled the firewall, still could not connect.
2) Downloaded Steam client and installed it again, it connected.
3) Turned on firewall and now now it can connect without issues.

Very odd!
