Lately I've noticed that text on my laptop's LCD monitor is bowed near the left-side of the screen. It is most obvious when I view the names of my personal mail-folers in MS Outlook.

What causes this and what (if anything) can be done to correct it?

Aaron,

What you are describing sounds like what is known as pincushion/barrel distortion. I have never known that to come about with aging of optics or displays. When present, that defect is found in the optic/display from the outset.

Since you say this issue is most apparent when viewing the mail-folders column in Outlook, you may be experiencing an optical illusion as the folder icons are slightly raised above their associated text.
