Can someone tell me if I am able to restore an image from my old HDD (which is stored on a USB drive) onto a new HDD
Thanks

Yes, that is one of the main reasons for having an imaging product. It must be an image, not a files and folders backup, to restore a bootable disk and have it boot.

Thankyou for the quick response. can you tell me if I did the back up correctly:
I selected the back up & Restore catagorie
Choose backup
selected My Computer
Disks & Partitions
Choose the correct drive to image
and selected Create an image using the sector by sector approach
The image was then created on my USB drive.
Is this image the same as a Ghost image would be (ie Operating system, apps, files etc)?
Thanks again

You appear to have made a correct image of your disk, you have verified it? Boot from the TI rescue disk (if you haven't made one make one now and verify the image from the rescue disk) and follow the wizards until you get to the screen where the options are "Cancel" and "Proceed" up to this point nothing has happened. Only after clicking "Proceed" will TI start the restore. Cancel out and swap your old disk with the new one and reboot with the rescue disk, this time clicking “Proceed”
If the rescue disk doesn't "see" your USB drive read the Sticky titled "Please Read before you Post" and the section titled "Wilders Security threads on common True Image problems and solutions" in the second sticky down particularly the beginners guide.
If all else fails post back here and someone will help.

Unless you have a specific reason for doing so, you shouldn't need to use the Sector-by-Sector option. The regular imaging process will be much faster and much smaller as it only backs up used sectors.

Will this create an image of my HDD including all of the OS, system ettings, data etc, so that I can restore onto a larger HDD later on?
Also, would I create the image from the boot disk - or in TI within Windows?
Thanks again for the help.

The "regular" image and the "Sector-by-Sector" image will both contain all the data on the partition/drive.
You can restore to either a larger or smaller drive (assuming the used amount of data will fit).
You can create the image from the TI CD or from within Windows. This is personal preference. However, if you're not doing a test restore from the TI CD, at least boot to it and make sure it sees your drive(s) correctly and that you can successfully validate your backup image.

I will try to create regular image from the CD. Then see if I can verify it etc.
Thanks to all of you for pointing me in the right direction.

Everything seems to be working fine, But i will know on Thursday when my new HDD arrives and I resore the OS onto it. I assume that TI will resize the partition automatically (upgrading from from 150 to 350 gig)
Thanks again for all your help
