Trying to download this small 600k file locks my machine up for 10 minutes after it has downloaded.
http://www.abexo.com/mddemo.exe
Can others try and confirm this is a problem with either the Web scanner module or real time scanner. Turn off AV and file comes down in seconds.
A 600k file shouldn't do this and hang my Firefox browser for 10 minutes. Ekern is at 100% for 10 minutes, this is ridiculous.

So... what does this file do?? (you are asking people to dowload something without giving info .... that is NOT COOL.
Anyway ... Not to bother you but in my setup (AMD 64 x2 5600+, 2gig RAM on a Vista Ultimate machine) it took 3 seconds to analize the exe and no problems or hangs in my browser (Opera 9.5 latest beta build)...
You should give us some info on your system's hardware, maybe it is not related to Eset

Sorry should have said its just a memory defragger trial program should be safe, it can be deleted after. My machine is a 1 Ghz PIII with 1.5 GB of Memory.
Tried the file again and it seemed to download and wait for 1 minute, then when saving the file that took 2 mins 6 seconds to save. I have an 8 Meg broadband connection I don't expect it to take that long to download a 600k file. A minute isn't bad but then an extra 2 mins to save/create the file there must be something wrong in the real time scanner. It's only a 600k file !
PS Not the server as DU Meter shows a quick instant download but ekern uses 100% CPU.

Yes. Confirmed my CPU 99% ekern....emulate file freeze moments browsers and hight cpu
IE, Safari, Opera and Firefox download file jump ekern uses 99% CPU and may occur in a few moments a "crash"
My PC E6600 and 2GB memory

Ok have found a fix and that is to turn off "Self Extracting archives" in Real Time setup. This is not an adequate workaround as it means moving away from recommended default settings.
I also tried an on demand scan of the downloaded file which took 44 seconds which is acceptable but 3 minutes is not. Why is the SFX real time scanner taking so long to scan 600k? Is there a file in the archive causing the scanner to run slow. I will be disabling EAV when downloading XP SP3 executable if this is not fixed.

Edit: Additional testing reveals that with default settings in EAV 3 renaming a this file takes 40 seconds, this can't be right? I don't really want to disable the self extracting archive scan on creation/modification.

Scanned in 6 secs here. It's doubled when you download it as it is scanned by the web and realtime file system protection:

Well I've done a fresh install with default settings.
On demand scan 31 secs
Download: Web scan 33 secs, Save file 1 min 4 secs
Renaming file: 31 secs till system starts responding again
How do I fix this without turning off SFX Realtime Scan?
