Dear ALL,

my question....

the system would look like : C: XP; D: Vista.
The system was delivered with the preinstalled XP without a recovery CD and a Vista CD, wich was installed as a second system.
We want to make a security image for XP, wich should work with installed Vista!!!
And if it possible for Vista too, in order to have a fast possibility to reinstal
the Vista.

The questions are:
1. is it possible with ATI9.0 ?
2. if not , what is a best way to solve this problem?

Thank you very much
Volk

You should be able to do an Entire Disk Image backup (check the Disk # checkbox) of the drive from inside XP or from the TI CD and be okay. You won't be able to install and use TI 9 in Vista, but you can use it to backup and restore Vista partitions from outside Vista.

The Entire Disk Image will contain both the XP and Vista partitions. If you want to do separate partition backups for each partition, you can. However, when you restore single partitions you may have to run Vista's boot repair (depending on how the system is setup).

Hopefully, the Vista DVD you have is a standard Microsoft Vista DVD.

If you want to be able to run TI in Vista, you'll need to upgrade to version 10 or 11. If the computer is very new, TI 9 may not see all your hardware/drives or may not boot properly. Have you tested it on the computer? If you stick with version 9, it's generally best to use build 3,677 or later.

Hello volk,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Backup software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).

Please accept our sincere apologies for the delayed response.

According to your post now you have Windows XP installed only. Vista is on another PC and the goal is to install both Operating Systems on one computer and create separate backups of each Operating System.

So firstly you need to install Windows Vista on the computer running under Windows XP. Here is scenario you can use for this:

- If you have only C: partition on your hard disk drive please create one more partition (let us say D:) where Vista will be installed.
- In order to create new partition you can use Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/diskdirector/). You should create new partition where Vista will be installed as described in the Chapter 3.1 of the User's Guide. Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/diskdirector/) User's Guide can be found here (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/download/docs/).
- When the new partition for Vista is created please install Vista to it.
- After Vista installation is complete you will see Windows Vista Loader at startup. It allows you to choose what Operating System (Vista or XP) to boot.

After that using Acronis True Image 9.0 Home (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/) you will be able to create both backups of Windows XP partition and Vista partition. You will also be able to create entire disk backup to be able to restore it or any of the partitions it contains. Please be aware that Windows Vista is not supported by Acronis True Image 9.0 Home (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/). This means you can't install it under Vista and need to use Acronis Bootable Rescue Media to back up Vista partition.

In order to create mentioned backups you should use instructions from the Chapter 5.2 of the User's Guide. User's Guide can be found here (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/download/docs/).

Please be aware also that if you wish to transfer Vista partition from one PC to another you can do this only if both computers have the same hardware environment. Otherwise this can cause different conflicts.

At the same time you can try to use Acronis True Image Echo Workstation ( http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/download/ATICW/) with Universal Restore Add-On to perform hardware independent restoration. We recommend you to download Acronis True Image Echo Workstation Trial ( http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/download/ATICW/) and try its functionality for free within 15 days period.

Thank you
