hi i backed up a 40 gig hard drive (xp) to an exteranal usb drive using the boot cd.
This took an hour or so..Now I am trying to recover it and its
stuck on the last part 20 mins remaining for several hours.. Mouse still works.. there's still disk activity
Any ideas... ?Id really like to be able to restore the data...
Thanks in advance..

Pure guess here ... maybe the drive has bad clusters. Run chkdsk /r on it and then re-do the restore.

Hello jamesirl,
Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).
Could you please clarify if you have successfully validated the image after creating it, and also before restoring it?
Please try copying the image to a different drive (internal) and restoring from there.
Thank you.

Hi . I didnt validate the image after creating it. I ran chkdsk as suggested above. it found a few index problems. Hung forever on stage 4 and 5 so I stopped it. I ran the restore again ..It took 19hours! but it restored successfully..! Thanks for the help .james

Rerun CHKDSK /R and let it complete stages 4 and 5. If they don't complete, replace the hard drive before you have a drive failure that loses your data.
