hi everyone
taskeng.exe service is causing high CPU usage.
The option of stopping the service or changing it's startup shoice is blanked-out.
Anyone experience this problem? Any suggestions for resolution?
Running Vista Home Premium SP1
Alongside Avast Home
thanks in advance

Thanks GlobalForce
However, the reg file didn't work. taskeng.exe continues to show up even after a restart.
Curently I'm disabling the service after boot through task manager

Sp1, correct? Take a look at this last post by NickDownUnder (http://www.vistaheads.com/forums/microsoft-public-windows-vista-general/166895-numerous-taskeng-exe-processes.html).

Just tried that. but it didn't work. Also uninstalled Vista SP1 and Avast. And the taskeng.exe spikes still continue. You can here my fans working really hard!
Other than this issue Vista has run better on my system than XP Pro.
I don't want to reinstall XP with Vista reactivation rubbish. Really want to resolve this issue ASAP.
If I cnt find a solution soon I will dual boot linux, for the first time, until I can resolve this.

I turned to the site where I usually turned to for XP services years back and I found instructions by a member on the forums (http://bbs.blackviper.com/index.php/topic,628.0.html).
