So I am sitting here, totally dejected and unhappy watching the boob tube.
Cable over 100 channels and I can't find anything that I am interested in to watch. Why? Because basically my wife took over my computer. You see, we kind of made a deal. If she let me buy it, we would take turns. I love her dearly, she can have anything I got, but I wish she hadn't got interested in My computer. Last night we both had a blast on it. So now we have it set up so she gets it for 4 hours and I get it for 4 hours. What a bummer.

Talking with my wife, she says she wants to start on line banking and all that and that her girlfriend has Vista and she wants Vista. What's a man to do? I just bought a new computer with XP on it and I love it, but like I say, the little woman is my life, I love her and I want to make her happy. What I do know, is that I can't afford another computer right now. So I'm sitting here just itching to get back on the internet and my wife has it for another 2 and a half hours. I think I'll call my friend the techie and maybe he can make me feel better.

I'm talking with techie and he says, well, you have several options you can try. I am not busy now so why don't I come over and we can discuss the options you might have. I say great and he says I'm on my way.

While I'm waiting for techie, I go back and check on my wife. She is pounding away on the computer and having a good ole time. Gigling and jumping up and down. What a bummer.

The techie knocks on my door and I invite him in and pour a couple cups of coffee and we set down to talk. The techie asks, What is it you would like to do at this moment in time? I say well, I want to get on that computer so bad I can taste it but... (I told him what the deal is) and he kind of grins and says can you afford to buy Vista. He wrote down what the amount would be for a single OEM licence and says because you are a good customer, I will rig it up for you in my spare time and won't charge you anything for labor.
He says, you won't need to buy any hardware because I will make your system a duel boot system so you can choose which system you want to boot up to. XP for you and Vista for your wife. I look at the amount it will cost for vista and it ain't too bad and I love my wife soooo I say YEA... lets go for it.

Now my wife comes out and greets the techie and so I tell her the plan and she is all excited and I am all excited. Then she tells me the bad news. She says Norton did a scan on the computer and found several bad things that it automatically removed and said one of them was a rootkit. I look at the techie and he has a frown on his face. Humm, he says, that's not good. Oh Oh, I'm thinking, what in the world is going on. I never heard of rootkit before. What does that mean? Then my wife says, I have tired myself out on the computer and I think I will take a nap and you can have the time I have left. So the techie says, well let's go back and see what kind of damage we got.

We get back to the computer and what my wife said was true. Norton ain't likeing what has happend and it is saying so. The techie says OK and asks have you put anything on the computer that is of a personal nature such as documents or pictures or anything that you don't want to loose. I say no and my wife says no. We have been too busy playing on the internet to start using it as a tool or storing pictures or anything like that. The Techie says, very good, so lets get you back to where we started and get rid of all this hacker ware. I say OK and my wife excuses herself and heads off to take her nap.

The techie says what we are going to do is the same thing we did yesterday except we are going to work it while still in windows. We won't need the boot disk. All we will need is the 3 backup disks and because I have the time today that I didn't have yesterday, I want you to work the keyboard while I watch and explain what you are doing. I say OK sit down at the computer and ask Now What? The techie says hit the Acronis Icon. I click the icon and Acronis comes up and it says Pick a Catagory. The techie says click on Backup and Restore. I click it on and have a choice of backup or restore. He says we want to restore and so I click on restore. I get a welcome screen that says Welcome to the Restore Data Wizard. I click continue and another screen comes up. The techie says look at the left and select My Computer. I do and under my computer it shows drive c, drive d and drive e.
The techie says select drive d because that is your DVD player recorder. I do what the techie says and the techie says now insert this disk3 backup that you made 2 days ago. When I insert the Disk3 and close the door it now shows sysback3.tib under drive D on the left of my screen. Now the techie says select sysback3.tib. I click the sysback3.tib on and low and behold up pops the information that is on the disk. It gives me the following info
BACKUP ARCHIVE NAME: sysback.tib
TYPE: Image
it also tells be that it is: full system backup of drive c:
this is what I wrote in the information box when I made the disks
It tells me the date the disk was made
DATE: Tuesday, Mar 18 2008 10:20:26 AM

Right below the date it shows me a representation of a disk of what the backup is and the size of the disk 74.53 GB and it shows a shadow area representing how much disk space was used.

On the bottom of the window it shows
FOLDER: D:\sysback3.tib
FILES OF TYPE: Backup Archies

I look at the techie and the techie tells me to go ahead and click next.

Now acronis asks me to select one of the following:
Restore a Disk or Partion Entirely
Sector by Sector Restoration of Disk or Partitions
Restore Specified Files or Folders

I look at the techie and he says you want to Restore A Disk or Partitions Entirely and so I click it and now Acronis wants me to tell it which Partition or whole hard Drive to Restore

I place a check mark in Disk 1
System (C:)
MBR And Track 0
(all are checked)

Then it asks me if I want to Resize Partitions
The Techie says no, we don't and so I select No, I don't want to resize partitions.

Now Acronis says Please insert Disk # 1

I do and the recovery process starts.
when disk # 1 finishes it asks for disk#2 and then # 3.
When all disks finish Acronis says Completed
the Techie removes the Disk and I reboot the computer.

When the computer reboots It boots up to windows and all the warnings and bad stuff has disappeared and I am back to where I was 2 days ago.

The techie says, what I will do is order your Vista disk and when it comes in we will split your drive c: which will allow you to boot either to windows xp or to Vista and I will show you how to back all this up. Right now you are good to go but to ensure you do not have any bad stuff we will reformat your drive e:

He says go to start and then programs. I do as he says. Now he says go to accessories and under accessories select windows explorer. I click on windows explorer, and when the screen comes up the techie says look under my computer and find drive e: I do as he says. And now the techie says right click your mouse button and select format. I select format and a pop up comes up and gives me all the drive parameters. The techie says now click where it says format. I do and the drive starts formatting.
The techie says that should take care of anything bad that might of wandered over to your e drive. OK you are good to go and I will be talking to you OK. I thank him and he leaves and the drive finishes formatting and now it's time for me to (you know what)
GET ON THAT Internet!!
