well, new features, and what you think of them like- new self-defense module, new rootkit/spyware/adware detection.
Do you know of any others? are they making the product heavier by this? you know, ideas.

I think the trend will be to making programs (whether AV or otherwise) to be all-encompassing programs that perform several functions. Avast probably will be no exception. That trend will make them bigger and "heavier". It all depends on the malware picture at any given point in time. If malware development stops or slows down a lot, then antimalware programs should require fewer updates and changes. Most novice PC users will focus on programs that "do it all" and not having to deal with a lot of technical mumbo jumbo and myriad of options.
