Hello,
i wondered how on vista i was suddenly using 20gb with hardly any programs installed.
so i showed hidden files and folders. gained access to C:\windows\temp folder.
the temp folder was 9.6GB.
so i emptyed it.
i mean they are only temporary files anyway.
i restored the files to check something.
if i run diskcleanup it only reports 920mb of temporary files.
due to recyle bin size i could only restore 3.6gb from the bin.
once the diskcleanup had run i checked the folder and it stil has 3.6gb of stuff in there.
i manually emptyed it.
can anyone else with vista show hidden file and folders grant yourself access to the c:\windows\temp folder right click it and see how muhc space its takin up?

You might look at CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/).

These are my temp sizes:

I didn't know or ever notice that CCLeaner deleted drivers as well.

I've never seen it delete drivers, but you are certainly entitled to be annoyed if it suits your purposes.

Vista does not store temporary files in " c:\windows\temp" by default. Some programs extracts files there, so they are not deleted, when they are not needed anymore, so you have to do it manually.

That is true, there is another Temp folder in the hidden AppData directory. It's path is Users/[username]/AppData/Local/Temp. At present mine is at 226MB. I am not sure it would be a good idea to clean this because I think I did once and when I tried to uninstall a program it failed because it couldn't find some uninstall info it needed in this directory.
