Almost everyone in my town stays home today! Yes, it's freezing cold! :o We have to start up the car 3 times a day (at least) to make sure it would work the day after. :(

Looool!
Well, seeing the pictures here, Wilders looks just like home. ;D Winter would be much nicer it the temperature wouldn't go under minus 10.
We turn on the heater in the house but it's very uncomfortable to sleep when the heater is turned high. So, I bought an electric blanket ;) and it's much better .The heater in the house can remain at 72 F and the electrical blanket keeps the bed (and me!) warm.
Hey Peaches, I can recognize my mitten in the picture, lol!
And bigc, thanks for the spring picture! :)

Don't have to live in the north to have some bad weather. I woke this morning in the middle of an ice storm. Total accumulation expected to be 1 inch of solid ice with snow comming tomorrow.
I live in SW Missouri.
Don't expect the power to last much longer, so things might get dicey. >:(
Can't take any pictures as the wife took the camera when she left.

Yes, I have a cat. I named it Nah. :) (No, it's not the one in the picture though) I also had hamsters in the past, hamsters are very fun too, a German sheppard, a li'l beagle and a raccoon. Why a raccoon? There was a bush behind my house where he used to visit me everyday. He kept visiting me until he was too old to come.I love animals, they are good company and can be real friends.
Wow! Thanks Peaches for the nice animation! :)
I'm sure all cat lovers would appreciate it:

I love San Diego and have spent much time over winter there. This is the first year we are actually home but I really do not mind it as the West Coast is not that severe. Mind you I would rather be in San Diego right now ... luv that place. Last year we housesat for a month in New Zealand ... rent was free gratis and a car thrown in too boot!! Can you beat that?? My brother in law is from michigan and it gets cold there also. A few years ago he was transfered to the admirals staff at the san diego naval station. Really easy work, but what he really liked was that san diego has the most even mean yearly temperature. Approx. 77 degrees average yearly temp. I used to enjoy driving down to visit him and my sister because where I lived in the Ojai valley gets really really hot. In case you are wondering Ojai is a chumash indian name the means the nest. I had the privelage of knowing the three last remaining chumash indians on the face of the earth. There is now only one still alive. :(

Yes it is beautiful ... we see it when we drive over the high mountain passes. When the sun shines on the frosted branches of trees, it is a sight to behold. We have also been caught in a total whiteout storm .... Not much fun being caught in one of them on a high mountainous road [like 5700 ft. high] when one cannot see more than a few feet ahead. We sure get happy to be down to Sea level where there is no snow. The Skiers are happy to have snow, especially at Whistler Mountain. There are 3 ski mountains just outside of Vancouver and skiers often, when the sun shines & it is mild, will take off their jackets and sunbathe... I think they are nutz!! Snow is beautiful but I prefer it high on the mountains and not in my back yard. :D

Well. it's starting to feel like a Canadian Winter around here. This whole last week our daytime highs have only been from 0 to +15F, with windchills of -20 to -30F. Lows between 0 to -10F. Just had ice and then 5" of snow on the 25th. Saturday night, Sunday, and Monday expecting major snow storm. Snowfall amounts of up to 16"+. Another major snow storm coming Wednesday. No snowfall prediction for that one yet, but their saying that it will probably be more powerful and dump more than the first one. Since I work for a municipality plowing snow, I probably won't be around much for about a week, maybe 2 after Sat. night. Yes, I'm the lousy bast_rd that plows the snow back into your driveway after you've just spent 4 hours shoveling it out of your driveway. Sorry. It's just my job man.
So my friends, Wish me luck.
Pray that nobody foolish,
Pulls out in front of my truck.
If you see my coming down the road,
Pushing snow with a heavy load.
Please don't pull out in front of me.
It's too hard to stop, let alone see.
Just wait for me to pass you by,
Then in my tracks you may safely drive.
On the salt and sand that I will spread,
Then your car, won't act like like a sled.
Just wait for me and take your time,
My 20 ton truck can't stop on a dime.
I'd hate to hurt any of you,
It's something I couldn't live through.
Oh, P.S. To all my special Canadian friends. I know you're all very kind hearted and generous and love to share and everything, but sharing your weather, Gheeeeeezzzzz!! :o ;) ;D

Tips for starting your car in winter.
# Be sure you have a heavy-duty battery in your car. Replace it once a week.
# Install an oil heater, a radiator heater, an internal pre-heater, and an external pre-heater.
# If you can't get your key in the lock:
a. Check the color and make; is it your car or did yours slide downhill overnight;
b. Use a blowtorch to thaw the lock.
# Key won't turn in the ignition:
a.Try turning it with pliers; be careful you don't break the key in the lock;
b.Go inside and have a cup of coffee.
# Press the accelerator to the floor and release it; if you have to bend down and pull the accelerator off the floor, your gas has frozen:
a.Put a can of Heet in the car;
b.Go have another cup of coffee. Rationalize that the temperature will go from -19 to -18.5. Fortify those odds with another can of Heet - drink it.
# Turn the ignition key.
a.If the starter turns the engine over, flood the engine to force the frozen gas plug loose and to get the thawed gas into the carburetor.
b.Go have another cup of coffee - try to find a bus schedule; go outside and try again when you learn you have a 45 minute wait for a three-hour bus ride.
# Turn the ignition key.
a.If the starter just clicks, you need a jump. Find some jump cables; connect the red wire to the positive terminal, the black wire to the negative terminal, and plug the other end of the cables into an electrical outlet. Make sure you hold the metal ends of the cables - this won't help the car, but will send several hundred volts through your body to avert frostbite.
b.Go have another cup of coffee while the battery charges for 15 minutes.
# Turn the ignition key.
a.When the car doesn't start (and it won't), remove the air cleaner and spray ether into the carburetor. Let the fire burn at least five minutes to help thaw the engine.
b.Go have a cup of coffee and call a service station because you dropped the wing nut into the carburetor.
# Turn the ignition key.
a.If the car doesn't start, go have a cup of coffee and call work that you won't be in; then call a service station.
b.If the car starts, go have a cup of coffee and call work that you won't be in; then take the day off to celebrate.

You know, I grew up in New York City, and it took me years after coming up here to southern Ont. to figure out why winter seems more miserable up here. Not really much colder (with rare exceptions), or more snow to speak of.
Then it finally dawned on me -- it's because winter here is so l - o - n - g. Typically it's May before we can safely feel that it's finally behind us.
I drove taxi here weekends, as a second job, for something like 20 years, and in all that time there was only one occasion when I pulled the car off the road and called it a night early because of hazardous winter-weather conditions. And that was in April, for heaven's sake. :P

Will the winter be cold?
In October, the Indians asked their Chief if the coming winter was going to be cold or not. Not really knowing the answer, the chief replied that the winter will be cold and that the members of the village should collect wood to be prepared.
Being a good leader, he then went to a phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked, "Is this winter to be cold?"
The man on the phone responded, "This winter is indeed going to be very cold."
So the Chief went back to encourage his people to collect even more wood to be prepared. A week later he called the National Weather Service again, and asked again, "Is it going to be a very cold winter?"
"Yes," the man replied, "it's going to be a very cold winter."
The Chief went back to his people and ordered them to go out and bring back every scrap of wood they could find.
Two weeks later he called the National Weather Service again. "Are you absolutely sure that this winter is going to be very cold?"
"Absolutely" the man replies, "the Indians are collecting wood like crazy!" :o

Yes, I agree "we had enough"! :(
Moreover. this week I heard kids complaining about it!
(normally, they do like like snow) I understand why. Most of the days were spent indoors for it was bitter cold. And all the time lost to shovel : everybody must get up sometimes 1 hour earlier ....

All kidding aside I do feel for all of you that are getting pelted by lots of snow this year. I have lived in the cold before and it does get old after awhile and any little ray of sunshine is real nice. But I will still rub it in just a little bit every once in a while.

Might be a good thing for people on a diet. Burning off those excess pounds trying to catch your food before you can eat it. ;D
