I am using Acronis V10. My HDD is partitioned C D E and F.
I backup to an external disk drive J.
I get the message "You chose to save your archive file to the same partition that is being backed up. It is highly recommended that you copy this archive to a different partition or removable media later" etc.
Can someone explain if this applies to my situation when I am backing up to an external HDD please.? I am finding this rather confusing.

If the J: drive isn't selected to be included in the backup image, you shouldn't be getting that message. Have you verified the J: drive isn't checked when you're selecting partitions to backup?

Thanks for that. That is where I have been going wrong as I have also ticked "J" my external drive.
I just did a backup without ticking "J" but it came up with a window:
E000101F4: Failed to read data from disk.
Failed to read from the sector 5,688,831 of the hard Disk 1
Gave four options
RETRY IGNORE IGNORE ALL CANCEL
Well I went to IGNORE.
Other thing I am note sure about. When you do a backup does it create a .tib file for each backup?
Thanks for your help.

“When you do a backup does it create a .tib file for each backup?”
If, by that, you mean “Does it create 3 .tib files if I select 3 drives/partitions to backup within a task?”, then no, it creates only 1 .tib file.
If you mean “Does it create a .tib file every time I run the same task?”, that depends on the type of task and options you pick; there’s no one size fits all answer to that.

Thanks for that info.
Can you comment on the error message I received.?

Hello Pato,
Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).
It's possible that there are errors on the hard drive you're backing up. We recommend you to run Windows chkdsk utility with parameter "/r" on all partitions of the hard drive you're backing up.
If the issue persists, please collect some information to let us investigate it thoroughly:
Please create Acronis Report as it is described in Acronis Help Post (http://wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=55317).
Then submit a request for technical support (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/my/support/). Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with a solution.
Thank you.
