Hi, can anyone help me by recommending a search tool. I have well over a Tb of data on my drives at home now and what I require is a software that can look inside documents for keywords/phrases etc etc. It must be able to handle Word, PowerPoint, Excel and PDF documents - anything else is a bonus.
Thanks, hopefully someone will come up with a tool that they know and can recommend. Help very much appreciated as usual.

there are many popular search tools that can index metadata...some that i recommend is
copernicus desktop search (http://www.copernic.com/en/products/desktop-search/)
google desktop search (http://desktop.google.com/index.html?ignua=1)
X1 professional (http://www.x1.com/products/xds.html)
archivarius 3000 (http://www.likasoft.com/document-search/)
all the above ones are free except for archivarius 3000.i am trialing this one at the moment.google has a linux version too.tracker and beagle are the ones that you can use in linux.all of them have their own pros and cons.you have to try them and see which suits you yhe best.i think i like copernicus.
google-runs light,plugins available,but few configuration options.
copernicus-light,good configuration,good gui
X1-slightly heavy, plethora of configuration options, more supported file types, good built in viewer.

Okay thanks I will have a look at those, archivarius 3000 looks good I'll start with that one. What is important to me is that the software can look inside the files and also over a network - thanks for the suggestions.:thumb:

@ Mrk,
Hi, NTFS and FAT mainly, but any other little gems would be an absolute bonus if you could recommend something but not essential - HFS, FHS and OCFS. -Thanks.
